The Minds Underground™ Classics Essay Competition 2026

The Minds Underground™ Classics Essay Competition invites students in Year 12 – though younger entrants and Year 13 university re-applicants are also welcome – to explore the ancient world through independent research and critical analysis. This competition offers students the opportunity to develop university-level essay writing and argumentative skills, while engaging with Classics, Ancient History, Philosophy, Literature, and Culture in preparation for Oxbridge or Russell Group university interviews.

Entrants must choose one question to answer.

Why enter our Classics Essay Competition?

Our Classics Essay Competition is an excellent way to enhance your university application, showcasing your passion for the ancient world and your ability to engage in independent inquiry. The process will help you develop research, planning, and analytical skills, all highly valued by admissions tutors.

What’s the prize for winning the Classics Essay Competition?

The winner will receive a £60 voucher for use with U2 Tuition or Minds Underground, as well as a tailored Resource Pack for Classics, including key readings and tips for further exploration of the subject.

When is the deadline for the Classics Essay Competition?

Entries must be submitted by 11pm UK time on April 3, 2026.

Who can enter the Classics Essay Competition?

Open to all UK and international students! It’s particularly recommended for Year 12 students or gap-year students reapplying to university, but younger students with a keen interest in Classics are also welcome.

Can I get support for the Classics Essay Competition?

Absolutely! Work with one of our Classics Essay Competition mentors to refine your essay-writing skills. They’ll assist you in analysing questions, conducting research, and structuring your argument, while providing feedback on drafts. Only one entry per subject category, but you’re welcome to enter an essay in another category!
