2026 Minds Underground™ History of Art Essay Competition

The Minds Underground™ History of Art Essay Competition invites students in Year 12 (though younger applicants and Year 13 university re-applicants are welcome) to explore the relationship between art, politics, culture, and society. This competition encourages students to think critically about how artistic expression reflects and challenges the world around it, developing the kind of independent analysis prized by Oxbridge and other top universities.

Entrants must choose one question to answer. Essays should demonstrate original thought, well-researched argument, and awareness of both artistic context and critical theory.

The 2026 Minds Underground Art History Essay Competition questions are now live. Submit by 3 April 2026!
