It's time for students to get their thinking hats on for the Minds Underground Science Student Writing Competition! A creative writing competition like no other, students must write about an invention that could change the world. Fiction and non-fiction writing entries accepted. Join our combined Writing And STEM Competition for kids!

Age: 14 & Younger (Split into two categories: 8-11 and 12-14)

Top Tips

  • Maybe your invention could help solve a BIG global challenge e.g. climate change or poverty

  • The more descriptive the better! Use lots of adjectives, sensory description e.g. What colour/s is it? What texture?

  • Structure your writing:

    • If you are writing a non-fiction piece, make sure you plan out what each paragraph is going to describe

    • If you are writing a fiction piece, try to make sure your writing has a beginning, middle and end
